Marijuana Dosage: How to calculate marijuana dose in recipes for marijuana edibles

Marijuana Dosage calculations are especially important for patients trying out a new recipe. Calculating too high means having a patient ending up in the emergency room. Too low means that a patient doesn’t achieve a therapeutic effect. For safety reasons it is better to always have an error on the side of a low dose. The math of how to calculate THC dosage in recipes for marijuana edibles is explained in this communication by Susan Squibb.  They recommend estimating dosage at 10% THC. I recommend estimating the dosage of any unknown cannabis at 40%. Number one reason is that you must account for CBD as well as THC. The second reason is that most strains grown indoor are actually closer to 20%. That’s on the high end.  For safety reasons you should always have this margin of safety.

As a patient testing edibles that you make or that others make, I recommend being especially stingy on the amount you try meaning you also divide each edible you receive by four. Because each edible you receive will not have the margin of safety dosage calculated when making your edibles it is important that you account for this on the back end when consuming your medications. If you do this every time for any edibles you receive you will more often than not have the correct dose and avoid a trip to the emergency room.
